Another impressive performance put MBSC/SLO SURF team rider, Dustin
Ray in first place overall for the 2009 Triple Crown! Dustin won the
first two events and placed second in the third event, held at the
pit Saturday March 14th. The waves were 2-4 feet and the conditions
held up nicely throughout the day.
D-Ray had his work cut out for him on the third event. New-comer to
the central coast, Matt King (currently on the WQS) was looking
solid, as was Mr. Consistent, Sean-Don. In the end it was local
legend Nate Tyler who won it, pulling a sick 3' air after a big
power gaff! Nate took the $300 first place prize and prizes.
Sponsors included West Wetsuits, Creatures of Leisure, Azhiaziam,
Oakley, Fox, Elemental Herbs, Red Nectar and Hemp Ale, Pizza Port,
and OF COURSE, MBSC and SLO SURF!
London Oregon, also a MBSC/SLO
SURF team rider won the Juniors Division, taking out local female
ripper Keenan Reeser. Jackson Newel got third place, while Zack Zack
took fourth. Winning the entire Triple Crown was team rider Jackson
Newel!
In the Groms Division, 14 and under, Joel Wilke took out local
shredders Rocky Allen and Austin Thibedauex, but it was Austin who
was Triple Crown Overall Champion.
All three Triple Crown Champions will be invited to compete against
the central coast's best in Fall. The Perfect Conditions Legends
Invitational is comprised of 50 north and south county rippers,
old-school and new-school. Last year, MBSC/SLO SURF team rider Tad
Gibson took the event. Stay tuned for the date on this specialty
event.
